Chen is the fourth member introduced by SM Entertainment for this EXO boy band, on December 29, 2011. His real name is Kim Jong Dae, born on September 21, 1992 in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. In the EXO group, Chen occupies the position of vocalist. Although he is a member of South Korea, he remains part of the EXO-M sub unit and has previously passed the S.M. Casting System in 2011.
In 2014, Chen joined SM Entertainment's ballad singing group SM The Ballad along with his seniors. Still in the same year, Chen took part in singing the soundtrack titled "Best Luck" for the drama It's Okay, That's Love on the SBS channel. Please note, Grameds, that the drama also stars his partner D.O.
In 2016, Chen was re-appointed as a member of another EXO sub unit, EXO-CBX with Baekhyun and Xiumin. Then in 2019, Chen made his solo debut with a mini album and released the song "Beautiful Goodbye". In January 2020, Chen posted a handwritten letter on EXO's official fancafe stating that he would be getting married to his non-celebrity girlfriend and was also pregnant. The agency confirmed the news and the wedding was held behind closed doors.
Later in April 2020, SM Entertainment confirmed that Chen's wife had given birth to her first child, a daughter. However, in October 2020, Chen was declared to have registered for military service. Two years later, in January 2022, SM Entertainment again confirmed that Chen's wife had given birth to his second child. Finally, Chen came out according to the conscription with a predetermined time, namely on May 9, 2022.
